Matthew 14:19
“…And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.”
In as much as Jesus knew what to do to meet the needs of the multitudes, the numbers and availability of His disciples limited Jesus. He was willing to keep breaking the bread and giving to the disciples, but He needed the disciples to be in sufficient numbers to keep taking the bread to the multitudes. Imagine the simple process of twelve men trying to feed over five thousand people. It must have been overwhelming and time-consuming if indeed they were only twelve. What if Jesus had twelve disciples, but only five of them were available? Imagine the chaos and the delays that would have ensued.
Jesus’ limitation in changing His world is in the numbers and availability of His disciples. The problem is never the lack of ability of Jesus or the presence of mighty evil forces. Jesus’ limitation lies in the Church being willing and available for Him to pass through them. O, that our world will feel the touch of Jesus even as the disciples present themselves to Him for use.
“Jesus, have Your way. I am available, and I will always make myself available to You Lord. The multitudes are waiting for the miracle, and I pray I’ll be one of the esteemed disciples through whom You can hand living bread for the masses. Amen.”
