Matthew 15:14
“Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”
The tragedy of life is having blind people who lead other blind people. There are so many people who think they see, but they really are blind to the truth. Many are blinded by personal pride, selfish ambition, religious structures, human traditions, ignorance and a host of other variables. But whatever the issue, blindness is blindness because the blind man is unable to see or understand or respond to the truth.
We must be careful whom we follow. Jesus is our true Shepherd, and He is the safest guide there can ever be. However, since Jesus works through men, we need discernment to know whom we should permit to influence and direct our lives. Following a wrong leader can lead to the total destruction of our ordained destinies. Staying on the right path and avoiding the ditch of disaster is tied to the personal choices we make in followership. We must never follow out of loyalty or tradition. We must follow, only after having ascertained that our leader is actually following our only True and Great Leader. Don’t fall into the tragedy of being led by a blind man, after-all, in Christ Jesus; you too can see and hear the Shepherd yourself.
“Lord, You are my true leader. I will only follow the men You have approved for me to follow. I refuse to blindly follow men who could, in turn, lead me into the ditch. I reject this tragedy over my life, in Jesus name. Amen.”
