Matthew 16:20
“Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.”
Self-promotion is an ugly and wicked thing. It is an ungodly thing to seek to use your spiritual gifts or spiritual leverage to make you famous or known. Why do you seek the praises and accolades of men? Why is that important to you?
Do good and touch lives, without requiring that they announce you or proclaim your name. There’s nothing we have done that is good, that we did not receive as a free gift from the Lord. And if these are free gifts from the Lord, then we need not seek to tag our names on them. Although the disciples now knew He was the Son of God, yet He told them not to tell others. Jesus was not interested in quick promotion. He knew that those who would follow Him needed to have a spiritual revelation directly from the Father.
“Father, circumcise my heart again this morning and deliver me from even the slightest desire for self-promotion and public praise. In Jesus name. Amen.”
