Matthew 17:22-23
“…Jesus said to them, ‘The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.’ And they were exceedingly sorrowful.”
Sometimes, it’s best not to know when disaster is coming because of the pain of waiting for it to happen. Knowledge is great, but knowledge can also be exceedingly painful. In this example, the disciples were told the bad news and the good news, but the knowledge of the bad outweighed the knowledge of the good. Jesus said He would rise again after the third day, but the sorrow of His impending betrayal and death drowned the good news of His resurrection.
It seems that this is the common pattern in life. While good news should bring more hope and cheer, yet bad news always seems to drown out the good. But this ought not to be so. The fear of evil report and bad news can create paralyzing fright and trauma even before the incident happens. As a child of God, I need to see that at the Dawn of Eternity, all bad reports and evil news shall fade away permanently. The hope of resurrection needs to be the crowning joy of our lives despite the painful experiences of today. We must keep our eyes on the resurrection. We must look beyond the Bondage of Egypt and the Scorching Heat of the wilderness; we must see that once we cross over to the other side, there is endless peace and joy everlasting. We need to focus on the hope that Jesus gives, for only then can we face the heartbreaks, the betrayals and the crushing pains of today.
“I lift my eyes, O Lord. I see resurrection. With this view before me, I shall not be moved by the evils of today. Thank You for showing me that beyond the second day, the third day is coming when all pains shall cease. Hallelujah. Amen.”
