PAYMENT FOR SERVICE

Matthew 20:2

“Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.”

God is such a benevolent leader. Although He owns everything, He still pays to use what He owns. In this parable of the kingdom, the landowner agreed to pay the laborer a full day’s wage before sending them into His vineyard to work. God did not have to, but He did, and this portrays again the extensive graciousness of our God. God is generous, almost to a fault; but that is what makes Him God.

So why would men not serve Him? Why would I hold back from committing to go into His vineyard? Seeing that He will not let you serve without providing for your sustenance, why hold back? Only the disbelieving has refused to serve in His vineyard. Only the evil hearted has refused to trust the only One who can be called Truth. Jesus is hiring, but He is also paying; and for us who know His worth and capacity, we joyfully throw ourselves into the great service of the King of glory. Even if He did not pay, I would still serve Him, but glory be to God who has paid me much more than I could ever be worth. Only foolishness and raving madness could ever keep me away from serving my benevolent ever-gracious God.

“I serve You Lord not because of what You promise to pay me, but because of Who You are. Yet, I am a witness that You have taken very good care of me and this only adds extra motivation for me to remain serving. Thank You Jesus. Amen.”
