IMITATE YOUR KING

October 1, 2018

Matthew 21:5

“Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”

O daughter of Zion, you have been told to behold your King. Behold how He comes to you. Behold His demeanor and His manner of approach. Observe, O daughter of Zion; observe. And if your King comes in such humility, how dare you approach by any other means? Are you greater than your King?

Are we indeed greater than Jesus, who chose to live the simplest and humblest of lives? Why would we choose the high and ostentatious lifestyle when our King has decided to model an example of simplicity for us to follow? It’s sad to see the servants of Jesus live such high and exclusive lives, almost competing with the lifestyle of movie stars and great political figures. Oh! That we may imitate our King and choose the lowly path of ordinariness. What we dread so much is the very path He deliberately chose to follow. Oh! That we may pursue our King and practice the forgotten discipline of ordinariness.

“Lord God, make me like Jesus who lives in me right now. O Lord God, help me be ordinary and simple before men and before You. In all my approaches and mannerisms, please make me ordinary. In Jesus name. Amen.”
