THE POWER OF WORDS

October 31, 2018

Matthew 22:22

“When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.”

Your word is your sword. Your words are your weapons of warfare, to attack and to defend. Your words can elevate you, protect you or destroy you. When others use other means to project their cause, we are called to use our words as our primary means of interaction with our world, particularly with those who hate us.

So, while the Herodians and others had come to trap Him in His words, Jesus used His words to exonerate Himself and to overwhelm them. At the end of the discussion, He left them marveling. They sought to drag Him down by His words, but Jesus used His words to shine ever more brightly. My cry is that my words will indeed be soaked in heavenly wisdom such that all that proceeds from my lips will marvel men.

“O Lord Jesus, how I desire to speak as You do. May my words be full of heavens dew and may all men marvel at what You say through me. In Your name, I pray. Amen.”
