CUSTODIANS OF TRUTH

November 3, 2018

Matthew 22:29

“Jesus answered and said to them, ‘You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.’ “

I have been given the right to rebuke others, but that right must be anchored on the Word of God. We are called to correct one another and failure to do so is doing more harm than good. Once your motive is not in question, and once your position is based on a balanced Scriptural foundation, then it is your mandatory duty to correct that brother who may not know the Scriptures or may be interpreting it wrong.

Jesus said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures.” Although they were a learned community, Jesus knew their premise of interpreting Scriptures was wrong. Jesus did not attack them. He did not humiliate them. He merely showed them their error in a very civil, but direct way. We must be ready to do the same. Fear of conflict has forced many of us to be silent even in the face of blatant error and falsehood. We are called to be custodians of the Truth, and we need to execute our duties with a grave sense of responsibility and urgency. Don’t be afraid even if you are in the minority. Check your heart to ensure no personal interest is involved. Then make your stand for truth. Amen.

“Lord, I pray to take this task very seriously. Strengthen my heart against fear and open my mouth to defend and rightly interpret Your truth, in Jesus name. Amen.”
