Matthew 24:45
“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?”
As we wait for His return, what are the correct things we should busy ourselves with? During this interim period, should we fold our hands and be gazing into the sky waiting for Jesus’ return? How must we conduct ourselves in this season of preparation and anticipation? What we must not do is to be idle. Spiritual laziness is an antithesis to correct spirituality. The spiritually lazy man may gaze into the heavens and claim to be waiting for Jesus when in reality; He is an eyesore to Jesus.
God is looking for faithful servants who are wise enough to know that the best way to prepare for Jesus’ return is to be busy doing what He commanded. For each of us, Jesus has made us masters over a section of His household, and He expects us to nurture those He committed into our care. There is a season we need to meet the needs of each person committed to our care and we must be willing, and able to meet those needs at the right season. In Jesus’ own words, “Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.” This is what Jesus is looking out for when He returns. Jesus will be checking if we have been faithful in executing the tasks committed into our hands. I must stay busy, but primarily busy in fulfilling my divine obligation to men, so that I may be pleasing to Jesus.
“O Holy Spirit, help my heart to know what the specific expectations of Jesus are for me in this season, and push me fully into executing them. Make me a faithful and wise servant. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
