Matthew 24:48-49
“But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards,”
We have been given gifts and resources for the nourishment of the Body of Christ and the betterment of mankind. We have not been given resources to exclusively use on ourselves, or to use to subjugate others. I have what I have because God wants me to use it for others. I have not been given what I have been given for me to consume it on myself or use it to oppress others. It is an evil servant who abuses the resources of God for selfish reasons.
The faithful servant does not subdue those he leads. The faithful servant does not indulge in debauchery and licentious living. The faithful servant is concerned about the people around him, and he is constantly looking for ways to bless and uphold people. Whenever we begin to use God’s resources for personal gain to the detriment of others, we are abusing His resources. And while there is nothing fundamentally wrong in partaking of the blessings of the resources entrusted into your hands, you must be conscious of the fact that they were not given primarily for your pleasure but for the wellbeing of others. Be warned. Abusing heavens’ resources in your care is bad stewardship and this will come with dire consequences.
“O God, I fear that I may not be as good a steward as You expect of me. Forgive me Lord where I have used Your resources wrongly and I plead for mercy. Give me more opportunities to make amends and help my spirit to know what Your commands are for every resource within my stewardship. In Jesus name. Amen.
