EATING AND DRINKING ARIGHT

December 12, 2018

Matthew 26:26-27

“…Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body.’ Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you.’ ”

While the Communion Table is important and Communion should be celebrated frequently, more important than the ritual is the actual feeding on Jesus. It is possible to partake in the Sacrament of Holy Communion without participating in the life of Jesus. This New Covenant came to replace the old system of ritualistic operations that kept the worshipper tied to repetitive actions that did not bring any internal life transformation. If this new arrangement only took us back to practicing the old system, then the death of Jesus was in vain.

Jesus wants us to feed on Him. The call of Jesus is to literally draw our life from His life. Jesus wants to fill our spirits with the very life of God encased in His life, and the Communion is a place to revisit our commitment to feed on His life. We need Jesus. Our life needs His life. Let’s daily feed on Him.

“I am dry and empty when I don’t feed on You Jesus. My life loses meaning when I don’t feed on You. Oh Lord Jesus, feed me with Your Body and Blood as You did the early disciples. I plead for this in Your name. Amen.”
