Matthew 25:24
“Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed.’ ”
The man who was given one talent was completely unprofitable for the kingdom because of his perspective of his master. The way he perceived his master naturally affected his attitude towards his work, which invariable influenced his profitability. And herein lies the problem: perspective of your employer will always affect your effort and endeavor. If you see your employer as “hard” and unyielding, this will create a negative attitude towards him and his work, which will demotivate your labor.
In this story by Jesus, the servant saw his master in such a negative light that his attitude towards him was also very negative; leading him to bury his talents and gifts. How I see God will affect how I serve Him. If I see Him as a wicked taskmaster, then I will not serve wholeheartedly with joy. If I see Him as a generous and caring King, then my service to Him will be motivated by love. I know my God is exceedingly loving and kind and His generosity to me far exceeds my net worth. For this reason, I serve Him wholeheartedly and lovingly because I know His heart for me is true and genuine and complete.
“I cannot find another even close to You in loving steadfastness. If I had a wrong perspective on You, then I would be foolish to my core. Lord I love and serve You because You have overwhelmed me with Your loving generosity and kindness. Thank You Jesus. Amen.”
