THE FORGOTTEN MINISTRY

Matthew 25:35-36, 40

“for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me…And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ ”

At the end of age, the Lord will separate the peoples of the nations as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and to the righteous sheep on the right, He will welcome into the blessedness of the Kingdom prepared for them. The reason however given for admitting the righteous wasn’t that they had great faith or preached to Unreached peoples; but it was because of their service to humanity. To Jesus, serving God’s people in need is the same as serving Him. The elect were chosen, rewarded and acclaimed as righteous because of the works of love and kindness rendered to the brethren of Jesus. Unfortunately, the opposite is true for those who neglected this crucial ministry.

It is not enough therefore to hold correct doctrines on divinity or preach great heart-moving sermons on holiness. It is not enough to sacrifice for the gospel or manifest powerful gifts of the Spirit that amaze men. One important and often forgotten duty of every believer is to serve the people of God. In the very words of Jesus, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.” – Verse 40. Jesus receives our acts of generosity to the needy as a direct act of worship to Him. Another and very strategic way to serve Jesus is by investing time and resources in blessing His frail and needy children. Do you want rewards from God? Here is a sure way to get it.

“Open my eyes afresh and open my heart to mercy anew, that I may invest my life in serving the needy Church. Take me beyond the preaching by words, and grant me the eyes and the heart to serve You by serving others. In Your name, I pray. Amen.”
