SUCCUMBING TO FEAR

January 14, 2019

Matthew 26:58

“But Peter followed Him at a distance to the high priest’s courtyard. And he went in and sat with the servants to see the end.”

It’s an error to underestimate the power of fear. Fear is real and Fear has no friends. Fear looks right at you and sees through you. Fear knows the type of “reality” that will terrify you, and Fear brings your unique brand to you. Some people are not scared of snakes, but are terrified by cockroaches. It’s amazing how distinctly unique and different we are when it comes to fear. Each reality is different but carries with it, a sufficient dose of lethal fright to break the heart of the strongest warrior.

Fear is real even though the cause of fear could be imaginary. We are sometimes afraid of a false reality that Fear creates for us to believe. Fear wants to keep us running and fleeing from the place of our blessing. Peter was meant to have stood with Jesus, but Fear took him far away and left him at the footstep of mere servants. Fear takes away your birthright as a child of the King, and makes you a servant with ordinary paupers. You lose your high position of prestige when you succumb to the fright of Fear. We need God’s breath of life to renew and restore what we’ve lost through fear, and we need God’s power to make us stand at the next appearance of Fear.

“I have lost a lot because I fled in the day of testing, but Lord Jesus, grant me the power of Your Spirit to stand when next Fear raises its ugly head. I shall fear no evil all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
