WHAT HUMILITY IS NOT

January 17, 2019

Matthew 26:63-64

“But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, ‘I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘It is as you said…’ ”

Humility is not denying who you are; neither is it choosing to be whom you are not in order to please others. While the humble man does not flaunt who he is and does not make a big deal of any special gift or special status he has, yet he will not deny the fact that he is who he is. Denying who you are is belittling God’s grace on your life, and making God a liar.

When they were falsely accusing Jesus, He did not bother responding to them; but when they asked Him directly under oath if He was the Christ, He had no choice but to own up. Not owning up would be lying to Himself and to God. We have been fearfully and wonderfully made. We have been specially packaged by grace to be who we are. It is not pride to accept who God has made you to be, and it does not glorify God to deny the grace of God upon your life.

“I know who I am in Christ, and I know whom You have made me to be, Lord. I will stand up and accept who I am irrespective of what people think or say about me. Help me honor You as I do this, in Jesus name. Amen.”
