Matthew 27:3
“Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,”
There are some sins we cannot restitute for, even if we repent of the actions. Some crimes once committed, cannot be reversed, even if we are sorrowful for having committed the crimes. For example, if I killed your son, there’s nothing I can do to change that reality. The child is dead and gone. I may repent and regret I ever did it, but that won’t bring the child back. This is the sad reality of some errors committed. While some situations can be amended through restitution, and in such cases, we should restitute; this, unfortunately, does not apply in all situations. Whether or not restitution is made or not, the fact remains that the sin still happened, and repentance can happen even if restitution is not possible.
When Judas realized the evil he had done, he wanted to reverse the situation, but it was too late. He was deeply sorrowful, but the deed had been done. We must be watchful as disciples of Christ because Satan wants to bring us to this place of extreme sorrow. We must be extra vigilant through Christ so that we are not caught in the irreversible. Note however that even when a situation seems irreversible, we can still repent and after grieving, accept God’s forgiveness and move on. Continual unrelenting grieving over what we cannot change is not God’s will for our lives.
“Oh Jesus, protect me from doing anything wrong that is irreversible. Please Lord, keep me vigilant. But if I ever fall into such a situation, may I quickly repent and move on rather than drown myself in guilt. Amen.”
