IT DOESN’T MATTER

Matthew 27:29-30

“When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head…And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’ Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head.”

It doesn’t matter how they treat you today; keep your eyes on the glory ahead. It doesn’t matter what they say of you today; keep your eyes on the morning of joy. It doesn’t matter what they do to you today; remember that greater days lie ahead. Never forget that the world has no accolades for those who follow Christ and seek to follow Him earnestly. The only gift we will receive from the world system is a crown of thorns, interwoven with mockery, humiliation, and pain. The world system does not and cannot celebrate Jesus, and neither will they celebrate us.

Although the world gave Jesus a crown of thorns, He knew that He would soon receive a crown of eternal glory just ahead. They thought that they had crushed Him and that they had the last say, but He knew that His Father had the final word. For this reason, it didn’t matter to Jesus what they said or did to Him. He was so focused on what was yet to be revealed, and because of that, He was not moved by what they did to Him. It did not matter. May these things not matter to us also. May we keep our eyes on the glorious Day ahead, and not pay too much attention to what men do to us in this day of transient things. Our convictions must remain resolute, for we know that these crowns of thorns will soon be replaced.

“Hallelujah! The crown of thorns will not endure forever. I will not let them dissuade me from my resolutions to follow Jesus. And if You Lord decide that my pathway must lead me to wear crowns of thorns, then help me Lord to keep following You despite the pain, knowing that a glorious morning will soon come. Amen.”
