Matthew 27:32
“Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross.”
While our primary call is to carry our individual crosses, God may require us to carry the cross of another who is unable to. The call is not to be crucified for him but to assist him through the valley of inability, on his way to Golgotha. Many know they are to carry their crosses and they have started carrying their cross on their journey, but many have stumbled on the way, and need help. Love compels us to reach out and help the struggling brother or sister on their pilgrimage to death.
If our Master needed help to carry His cross, it means we all will face seasons when the burden of the cross may be overwhelming, and we too need help. Simon of Cyrene did not help Jesus willingly. He was “compelled to bear His cross.” Let’s not wait to be compelled by men but let’s quickly respond to the inner compulsion of the Spirit. When God moves our hearts to help a brother or sister struggling through the burdens of walking with God, let’s respond quickly, lest he becomes discouraged and gives up the journey altogether. Jesus could not make it to the hill of crucifixion without help. We all need help to get to our places of crucifixion. Let’s reach out and help each other get to our places of death, for there is no resurrection until death has occurred.
“My glorification only comes after my crucifixion, and I must get to my Golgotha. When I begin to turn away from this noble path because of the weights of the cross, please send me reminders and helpers O Lord, that I may follow through to the place of death. The Flesh must die. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
