Matthew 27:35
“Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: ‘They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.’ ”
Don’t worry about what happens to your stuff after you depart. We are sometimes overwhelmed with anxiety over what would happen to our posterity and our inheritance after we are gone. No matter how much we worry and no matter how much we plan, we cannot control what will happen to our precious items, after we depart from the face of the earth. What will happen to them will happen to them, as it is written concerning them. Play your part of course, but leave the rest to God to decide.
The moment the soldiers crucified Jesus, they divided His garments by casting lots. Different soldiers got different clothes depending on their luck, but even this simple and mundane event was according to the prophetic plan of God. We must learn to rest in God’s sovereign will for our lives and our posterity. His plans for us are all-encompassing, and it includes what happens to our stuff after we die. Worrying about what we cannot change is foolishness. Entrusting our posterity into God’s sovereign care is knowledge and wisdom.
“Lord, I came in without anything, and I will leave with nothing. Lord, I consciously hand over to You, the future of everything and everyone I love on earth, and I rest my case knowing that You will do what is right with them and for them. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”
