Romans 13:12 (NKJV)
“The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.”
Since the night is at hand, we can no longer live as children of night in the day time. There was a time we could act as children of night and get away with it because we were indeed children of night, but after the light of Christ has shone on us and the brightness of His light now overshadows us, how can we not but live fully as children of the day? Living in the light requires an armor of protection, and Christ is that armor. Those who live in the light of His day, are protected by the armor of Christ. Darkness cannot penetrate your armor if you live in and put on this armor of light.
So, NLT says, “remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes.” To maximize your day, you need to take off any dark deeds around your life. You cannot live fully in God’s day light while still wearing the old dirty garments of the flesh and of sinful living. These are irreconcilable. Verse 13 explains further, “Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see.” Our being children of the day demands that we live exemplary lives for everyone to see. If we are to maximize our day, it must include casting off every work of darkness, and always being fully dressed in God’s armor of truth and light.
“Help me Lord to live fully in Your light and to put on the necessary armory needed to be an example to others, in Jesus name.”
