1 Samuel 14:47
“So Saul established his sovereignty…land fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, against the people of Ammon, against Edom, against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he harassed them.”
Once we are spiritually established and to remain established, we must constantly be on the spiritual offensive. While I believe we all know this, it seems the Lord wants to keep reminding us of its importance. Spiritually engaging our enemies is not optional because each one of us is surrounded by enemies who seek our destruction. That is the spiritual reality of life.
So what should we do? First of all, be proactive spiritually. We must not wait for them to attack us before we respond. We should not live spiritually reactionary lives. Knowing that Satan and his cohorts will confront us, it is imperative for us to take the initiative and go on the spiritual offensive. Take the spiritual battle to their gates.
Unfortunately, many Christians live naïve lives and seem surprised when negative things happen to them. They cry, they weep, they seem shocked. It is spiritual infancy to imagine that Satan would leave you alone. He won’t. He lives to cause you pain, create chaos in your space, and ensure that you are not established in God’s purpose for your life. That’s why he exists.
So, I repeat, we must always go on the spiritual offensive. To be established, we must live in constant spiritual warfare and must constantly harass our enemies. Don’t wait to be harassed. We are called to harass – not human beings for spiritual powers, thrones, rules, and hosts in high places. That’s exactly how to secure yourself and your loved ones.
And that’s what Saul did. Once he secured his sovereignty over the throne (grasped the throne), he “fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, Ammon, Edom, kings of Zobah, the Philistines.” He also “attacked the Amalekites” and delivered the people from the hands of those who plundered them. That is leadership. We are called into this kind of leadership.
Don’t fight just for yourself. Fight to deliver others as well. There is a lot of plundering going on. There is a lot of spiritual casualty all around you. You may be okay, but so many people around you are not. If you are established, then help others also get established as well.
