1 Samuel 16:3,7 (NKJV)
“Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you…But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’”
God is always searching for men and women He plans to use for His kingdom. God’s plans and purposes are irrevocably tied to men, and in God’s wisdom, God seems to have limited His expressions on earth through the people He chooses. God’s work is fulfilled through His men.
In verse one, God said, “I have provided Myself a king among (Jesse’s) sons.” The men God will use are prepared by God Himself. He provides them. We are not to provide the men God will use, and honestly speaking, we cannot even prepare them. God prepares and provides.
We are simply privileged to be guided to those God has ordained, and we ordain in His name. He says to us, “Fill your horn with oil and go” (verse 1). Not all have this privilege, but if God has approved us to serve Him, then He wants to use us as His vessels to confirm others.
Anointing men for God and, in His name, is a very unique and revered ministry. We may not feel qualified to do this, but it has nothing to do with feelings. God has reserved it for those close to Him, those who can hear Him. God is constantly on the move, picking out those whom He wants to use. We are simply to be His partners in confirming His choices.
But there are protocols to this ministry. The first protocol is that we must have listening ears. Anointing men for ministry is such a delicate and holy assignment that it must be done under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. If we do not hear God clearly, then we are disqualified from this ministry, because we most likely will anoint wrong persons, and this is disastrous.
The second protocol is that we MUST accept that we are never the ones who choose who to anoint. God said to Samuel, “You shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.” We are only to anoint the persons God chooses, for Himself, and by Himself. We anoint on His behalf.
The third protocol is that we must fight all desires or suggestions of the flesh. Human assessment must never play a role in the process of choosing anyone because outward appearances are usually deceptive. We can easily be deceived by what we see.
God is looking for partners to send out with His oil. God needs to release more workers into His vineyard. Will you be bold enough to cooperate with God in this unique ministry of confirming others for ministry?
