ASK FOR HELP

1 Samuel 16:19
“Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, ‘Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.’”

Who is he that is perfect in all his ways and can live life complete without help? Who is that person who has all the grace needed to function and overcome life’s challenges without assistance from others? Do you know of anyone like this?

Such a person does not exist. Even when we pretend that we don’t need help, the truth is that we are all needy human beings, needing assistance from others. Once we get this fact correct, life becomes easier to manage because we become more open to ask for help.

Pride is the biggest limitation in looking for help. For some reason, some of us have overrated ourselves and become overbloated in our sense of self-completeness, and this false identity removes the humility needed to seek for help. Such people usually die in silence.

But why die in silence? Around you are gifts and graces designed to lift you out of your struggle. In God’s goodness, He places help all around us, all within reach, if only we will see them and reach out to them. While it may make you look vulnerable, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

Saul was king of Israel but he knew he had a problem that he could not resolve. He had a depressing spirit that troubled him. Whenever this spirit came to him, none of his resources were able to help him. So what did he do? He sought for help. He sent messengers to get him help.

Help may not always fall on your lap. You may need to go out and search for it. We don’t know how long it took for them to find David, but those messengers scavanged the entire land to find the man who could solve their king’s problem. They were determined. They were desperate.

Be determined and desperate to look for help. Don’t be casual about it. But the first thing to do, is to identify what your current needs are. Take them to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to guide you to solutions. This process may take time but don’t give up until you get what you need.

Be transparent about your need for help. If the people around you don’t have the solution, keep looking beyond your environment. Help is there somewhere. Ask people to help you search for help. They may not be the help you need but they may know where to get you help.

And one more thing. Don’t be bothered by the way the help is packaged. Just be sure that the helper is suitable for the task. That’s all that matters. Some of your helpers may not look it but they are exactly what you need.
