1 Samuel 16:23 (NKJV)
“And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.”
People are tormented and frustrated. People are troubled by different types of situations and experiences. People need hope and encouragement. Our world is desperate for a way out of the vicious cycle of woes and depression. And who will help them, if not us.
People have turned to different illegitimate things to solve their problems, but these things do not have the solution. They pursue after things like alcohol, drugs and sex in the hope that these things can quench their pains, but alas, their frustrations remain.
Many people are on the fast lane to destruction, and we need to do something about it.
Paul puts it very clearly when he says in Romans 8:19 that, “…the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.”
There is an earnest waiting for our revealing and manifesting because only God’s children have the solution to this world’s pain.
King Saul needed David to play his harp so that the “tormenting spirit would go away” (NLT).
What are the gifts and skills God has given you? You need to use them to help people who are suffering from tormenting spirits. They are waiting for your manifesting.
Unfortunately, too many of us have buried our spiritual gifts and are waiting for others to “bless us” rather than aggressively finding ways to bless others with our gifts.
The Church today has developed docile and complacent believers who constantly need entertainment and ego-massaging. But that’s not who we are as pilgrims.
We are restless pilgrims. We are constantly pursuing God’s high-calling upon our lives. We know that we have been saved to serve and we are never complacent. We are always on the move, ever aware of God’s expectation on us.
We watch. We listen. We respond to the Spirit.
Nobody has this world’s solution but us.
Suicide is on the rise even in very affluent societies. Drug addiction is on the rise. Sex trafficking is on the rise. Society does not have the solution to her social diseases. Governments and social scientists are searching but can’t find the answers.
We have the answer. You have the answer. Pilgrim, step forward like David, and play your harp.
As you move, the Spirit of God will move. If you don’t move, God also will not. He waits to work through those He has appointed and gifted.
May we not fail our generation. Amen.
