1 Samuel 21:13 (NKJV)
“So he changed his behavior before them, pretended madness in their hands, scratched on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva fall down on his beard.”
Some strategies work but not all working strategies are God’s way. We need to distinguish between what works and what is God’s way. God wants us to live and overcome but how we do that is very important.
Some people believe that surviving is the end goal of life, and survival at any cost is God’s will. This type of thinking will create channels to live corrupt and to deny Christ. This type of thinking will open doors for darkness to come in.
No matter what challenges we face, we must never deny our true identity as children of God. We are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. This is who we are. This must never be sacrificed on any condition.
John the Baptist understood this principle. He stood for who he was and paid the price for it. Are we willing to make such a sacrifice? The Bible says if we suffer with Christ, we will be glorified with Him. Can we suffer to maintain our identity?
Satan will always offer us options to deny who we truly are. He will invite us to “pretend” to be who we are not; to act in ways that contradict our true nature. We must never give in to these distractions.
David was anointed of God. The hand of God was upon him. A great destiny was before him. But when his life was at stake, he ran to the camp of his enemy for shelter. He sought refuge with Goliath’s kinsmen. Imagine that!!
And to make things worse, he changed his identity and pretended to be a madmen. Some people may call that creative thinking, but any creative thinking that makes you who you are not, does not glorify God.
In your times of loneliness and when survival is your priority, the temptation to change identity will be very high. Fight to be true to who you are in Christ. You don’t have to be loud about it, but don’t change your DNA for anything or anyone.
