REMAIN IN YOUR STRONGHOLD

January 24, 2025

1 Samuel 24:22
“So David swore to Saul. And Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.”

Always return back to your stronghold. Never believe the lie that all is now well and that you are safe. Your safety is only in the stronghold and you need to live always with that understanding and realization.

There is never peace in the spiritual world. There is never peace between God’s people and the world. There is never peace between the kingdom of light and the powers of darkness. For this reason, never let your guard down.

Saul had just wept before David, asked for forgiveness, confessed that David was a better person, admitted that David would be the next king, and then he went home. Why did he not hand the kingship over if all these were genuine?

But we know that Saul’s words were not from his heart because he later again pursued David to kill him. All the sweet words spoken to David were not actually and truly from Saul’s heart. They were temporary and not sustainable.

Because David did not believe Saul, he went down to his stronghold. He knew that Saul would change his mind soon enough, and he needed to be in a safe place. He was not moved by Saul’s sweet words.

Those who seek your destruction may be your friends today, but don’t trust them. They will still seek your downfall very soon. Your greatest assurance for living and remaining relevant is to stay in your stronghold.

As pilgrims, we have no other than the Lord Jesus as our stronghold. We run to Him. We abide in Him. We rest in Him. We are safe in Him. We refuse to let anything or anyone take us away from the shelter of His wings.

Irrespective of how safe you think you are with your friends and family, never leave the stronghold of Jesus. Stay rooted in Him, and don’t be convinced that there is peace outside of His covering. Like David, don’t go home. Go to Jesus.
