DECLARE YOUR IDENTITY

May 21, 2025

1 Samuel 29:8
“So David said to Achish, ‘But what have I done? And to this day what have you found in your servant as long as I have been with you, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?’”

Many people live as chameleons, living multiple lives to deceive others. It is okay not to reveal everything about yourself to your enemy, but it is not OK to actively pursue falsehood as a lifestyle. Deceitfulness is sin.

As much as possible, be true to your identity. Be true to who God has made you to be. Be true to your calling. Be true to what you are meant to represent. Your true identity may not always please people, but that’s who you are.

Part of your identity must be to defend God’s people. On no basis and in no situation should you join ranks with those who seek to destroy the Church. That is the identity of Satan and his host. They are here to destroy the Church. You are here to build.

Why do some Christians think it’s easier and more comfortable to be on the side of the world system in criticizing and denigrating God’s people? It amazes me to see Christian believers, in the company of unbelievers, laughing and mocking God’s people.

Know your identity and publicly show who you are in Christ. It may be risky sometimes, but that is part of the price of following Jesus. Christian believers around the world are suffering for Christ. Don’t hide your identity to escape persecution from the world.

David became a master at deceit. In the context of today’s scripture, we see him almost pleading to go and fight with the Philistines, “against the enemies of my lord the king.” Was David serious about this? I think it was all part of his act and pretence.

For how long will we live in pretence? For how long will we hide our true identity so that we can befriend the world? For how long will we live in the company of unbelievers, and they have no idea of who we are? The night is far spent. It’s time to be plain.

God expects us to defend His name and His kingdom. God expects us to show His glory in the face of opposing forces. Our identity is who we are. We are children of the Most High God. Without fear, therefore, let’s make our stand public. Amen.
