Romans 1:1 (NLT)
“This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus…”
I take on this identity joyfully. Yes, I know the stigma associated with being a slave but there are also privileges. As a slave, I am totally owned and controlled by my Master. As a slave, my total welfare is my Master’s responsibility. As a slave, I am my Master’s property. If Christ be the glorious Lord of life and all the heavens bow to His Majesty, what better position can I be than to be His very own, not just as a son, but as His very property.
I am a joyful slave of Christ. I don’t have a mind of my own. I choose only to have the mind of Christ. I am a joyful slave of Christ. All my desires, my appetites, my will, my passions, my pursuits and my ambitions are all submerged in what Christ wants. As a joyful slave, I serve Him and Him only, and my entire being only responds to Him and Him alone. Everything else comes secondary. A slave does not choose His Master. I did not choose Christ; He chose me. And you know what? We are all slaves anyway; whoever calls the final shot in your life is your master. I am glad and I rejoice to have Jesus as my benevolent, love-filled Master.
“This, Lord, is my greatest joy. That I don’t have to serve any other is my greatest privilege. Everything I desire or pursue is swallowed up in You. In my slavery to You, I am free from me and from every other lordship. Thank You Jesus for calling me to Yourself. Amen.”
