Romans 1:14-15 (NKJV)

“I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise…I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.”

A debtor has no choice but to pay what he owes. As is expected, every creditor will one day come knocking on the door of the debtor, and the debtor must be ready to pay up once the creditor turns up. Using this beautiful imagery, Paul shows that he has no free will when it comes to the matter of preaching the gospel. To him, everyone needs to hear the gospel and he was saved to ensure that all people hear. He had experienced such a glorious deliverance, and he was indebted to present the same opportunity to others.

But is that how we are? Are we so overwhelmed with the power of Christ’s salvation, that we cannot help but talk about Him everywhere? Do we live in the wonder of the atoning work of Christ, and therefore work tirelessly to make Him known to others? Only those who have been touched by the Wonder called God, and who continue to experience His amazing Wonder, can talk of Him relentlessly. We are debtors when we live in the wonder of God.

“Father, may I repeatedly experience the fresh visitation of the wonders of Christ, that I may thereby live in the constant present awe of Christ. It’s only by this, will I preach Christ to all men, as a debtor. Help me Lord, in Jesus name. Amen.”
