Galatians 6:7-8 (NKJV)

‘…for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.’

The law of sowing and harvesting is an eternal principle. I cannot expect to reap from what I have not sowed, except God does a miracle in my life. But the law stands: the results I get are directly linked to the investments I make. It is foolishness to expect to reap a harvest when you have not bothered sowing; and it does not make sense to desire to reap corn when you sowed rice. Why can’t we understand that this same principle also governs the spiritual life?

Watch what you sow daily. If I neglect the ways of the Spirit and invest all my time and energy on worldly things, how do I expect to make progress in the ways of the spiritual life? The man, who desires to walk in and live in the Spirit, must align his daily practices to grow in the ways of the Spirit. I can only reap a growth in the corrupt self-life, if I continue to sow into the ways of the flesh. The flesh desires attention and focus and promotion; and we must not give this to him. The old nature is seeking our attention but we must totally neglect him. Only by emphasizing the disciplines of the spiritual life and diligently pursuing the ways of the spirit, can the beautiful flower of eternal life begin to manifest in us and through us.

‘Lord, teach me to sow into what counts for eternity. Help me negate and reject the ways of the flesh in all its ramifications. Teach me to walk with you in the disciplines of the spiritual life, so that the aroma of heaven can begin to break forth even while I am still living here. I want nothing to do with the old nature. May I under your leadership, never give it attention or sow into its evil fields, so that I will not partake in its evil fruits. This I ask in Jesus name. Amen.’
