POUR IT OUT

August 16, 2023

1 Samuel 1:15 (NKJV)

“But Hannah answered and said, ‘No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord.”

There are two wrong responses we often make when we are troubled and stressed out in life. The first wrong response is to bottle it in rather than pour it out, and the second wrong response is to pour it out to men before pouring it out to God. Hannah had practiced these two options before, and they had failed her. Now, she was determined not to pour it out to man but to pour out her sorrows to God.

Life will definitely trigger sorrowful moments in our lives. We cannot live in this world without the stress of the world getting to us. The real issue, however, is that we must learn to constantly pour out our crises and stresses to God. Yes, we know Eli the priest is there at Shiloh, but it is wrong to entrust your sorrowing heart to a man, when you have not yet entrusted it to God. Remember that the God of Man is greater than the Man of God.
