1 Samuel 3:4 (NKJV)
“that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, ‘Here I am!’”
God is calling. God’s voice is ringing out, waiting for the “called” to respond. God is not a silent God. God knows what to say, who to say what to, and when to say it. And He continues to speak, but we do not hear Him. He speaks, but our lives are muddled up with multiple voices. He speaks, but our inner frame and mindset cannot receive what He is saying. We are so used to hearing human voices, that God’s voice has become strange. We have often taken human voices as God’s voice, so when God calls, we respond to men rather than to God. What a tragedy. What an absurdity.
Samuel was used to Eli’s voice. Samuel was used to receiving instructions from Eli. Eli was Samuel’s master, and all that Samuel knew, he had learned from Eli. Eli had played a vital role in Samuel’s life, but a time had come for Eli to step back for Samuel to hear from God directly. Don’t keep running to men when God is calling you to Himself. Yes, we know that men helped you through some crucial phases in life, but they are not God. Don’t replace God with Man. When you hear the voice of God, respond to God and not to man. God is calling. Can we hear Him? Are we responding to Him?
