The Irony

Galatians 4:1,3 (NKJV)

‘Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all… Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.’

It is possible to be a master and a slave at the same time; and this is a great irony. But that’s what scripture teaches. And all is tied to your understanding. When the child is still young, although he is master of all things, he has not yet the understanding of maturity so he behaves like and is therefore treated like he were not the master of all. He would need to be given instructions and directions like a slave would, because he lacks the knowledge of who he really is. In the same way, so are we while we are children in understanding.

We must refuse to come under the slavery of bondage of elementary spirits that want to hold us again in captivity to the law. We are free from the power of the law because we have come of age. We must enter into and experience the full status as heirs of God’s heavenly kingdom rather than degrade ourselves to the slavery to beggarly systems of dos and don’ts. But it’s all in the mind. It’s all in understanding, and maturity can be judged by the mental understanding of things. We must accept mentally that we have been fully redeemed and accepted in the Beloved, and these external laws do not make us nearer or dearer to God in any way. We are already heirs.

‘Lord, it’s clear that we may sometimes slip back into these rudimentary basics of the law as though the law could save us or help us. Teach me daily to live as a heir in your kingdom and not a slave that needs laws in order to find acceptance or favors before you. You live right inside of me and your inward presence overrides and supersedes any laws than man can give me on the outside. Amen’
