Jude 1:3 (NKJV)
‘…I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.’
The NLT translates this as, ‘urging you to defend the faith’. Although he had planned to write on something else, Paul felt an urgent need to urge and exhort the believers to contend for & defend the faith. This theme has come across to me again and again: a call to fight for the faith. I cannot sit still while the faith of our fathers is belittled, bastardized, cannibalized and castigated. I cannot sit still while some men in the name of preachers and pastors, plunder and abuse the people of God. If I am to be relevant to my generation, I must arise and confront the errors that have entered into the church.
Men of old died for this faith. How can we in this generation stand idly by and let it go to the winds? This fight started way back in the days of Paul and he fought his share of the battles. If we are truly in Christ and we have received this faith from those who have gone before us, then it is our obligation to defend the truth of scriptures and the balanced undiluted word of God. Even if men despise me and hate me, I am bound to teach truth and speak truth. The heart of those who have God’s Spirit are jealous for the Bride of Christ. We see the Bride being raped by atrocious men and our hearts bleed for the Church of God. But mourning for the Bride is not sufficient. Fighting and contending for the truth is required; in fact mandated upon us. I will not be silent as long as I live. I will contend for the faith of the fathers delivered to my generation.
‘Never let my heart wax cold Lord. As long as these rapists continue to rape your Church, stir up the fighting spirit in me and release me with your unction to speak your truth with all boldness. May I never be afraid of what men will say to me or do to me. May I only be concerned about doing what will please you. Amen.’
