THE FOCUS OF WORSHIP

August 8, 2023

1 Samuel 1:3 (NKJV)

“This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there.”

Although the bible mentioned that the sons of Eli were there at Shiloh, Elkanah went to worship and sacrifice to the Lord. Simple as it may sound, Elkanah was clear and focused concerning why he went to Shiloh. Others may have gone to Shiloh to admire the elaborate systems of sacrifice, to observe the multitudes of peoples coming for worship, or to adore the priests of the Most High God. People came to Shiloh for different reasons, but Elkanah was very clear-minded as to what brought him. He came to meet the Lord of Hosts.

When we come to the house of God, let’s likewise come single-minded. There may be many peripheral attractions in the house of God, but let’s determine that we are coming strictly to meet with the Lord of hosts. And for those who organize church services or spiritual meetings, let’s reduce the focus on the priests, the ministers, and other distractions but rather help people focus only on the Lord of hosts. He alone deserves our worship and adoration at Shiloh, and let’s give it all to Him.
