GOD’S DELAYS

Psalms 6:3-4 (NKJV)

‘My soul also is greatly troubled; but You, O Lord—how long? Return, O Lord, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!’

God is an intrigue. I cannot understand the delays of God. He is all-powerful and all-knowing, yet He sometimes delays in quickly responding to my grief. He seems to take His time to extend His mercy to me. Although I am greatly troubled, He waits and waits and waits- before He eventually acts.

I cannot understand God but one thing I know is that His love for me is complete and He always works out all things for His glory and my eternal good. The immediate release from my troubles may actually not meet the above conditions, so He chooses to wait still. But because of my currently pressing pains, I will continue to join the psalmist to say, ‘O Lord, how long? Return, O Lord, deliver me!’

Waiting is painful. Waiting for God to deliver us can be agonizing. Yet, we are called to wait, in hope and in faith. We must never doubt His love and goodwill, even when we cannot understand His wisdom.

‘Yes Lord, even when I don’t understand why you delay your deliverance, I still trust you are working all things for your glory and my ultimate good. I may not be happy with the immediate pains and troubles that surround me but please help me to keep having faith, even as I wait for you to deliver me. For there are treacherous whispering voices that tell me that things will not change and God will not answer. But I reject those whispers in Jesus name because I know that your mercy remembers and your covenant of love is there for me. So I have hope even in my troubles. Amen.’
