Romans 1:21 (NKJV)

“because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

Here is a painful process that leads Man into the darkness of soul. God has revealed Himself and continues to do so, because God wants Man to glorify Him as God. But man has refused God’s invitation. Although Man knows God through all that God has revealed about Himself, yet Man is not thankful or worshipping, but chooses to ignore God. This futility and foolishness leads to the darkening of Man’s heart further.

We sink deeper into darkness once we don’t acknowledge and glorify God as God. We sink deeper into darkness once we stop being thankful and we let our minds embrace the foolishness of self sufficiency. Our hearts will be filled with light if only we can see the futility of living outside His glory. Darkness is the only abode for any heart that does not glorify God nor live in thankfulness.

“Lord, have mercy on me. Lead me in grace away from futility and emptiness. Oh, that my entire life will only be full of praise and gratitude to God, giving Him all the glory due to Him. Amen.”
